Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation with Navigation for highly Customized Treatment

A completely different approach to treating depression. No more generalized treatment or one size fits all protocols.

What is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation?

TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate underactive areas of your brain. The pulses boost nerve activity in a precise area of your brain, which increases neurotransmitter levels. Most patients’ symptoms will improve throughout treatments, as brain activity is being restored.

Many mental health and physical conditions may be associated with dysfunctional brain activity. Brain imaging (MRI/fMRI) and electroencephalograms (EEG), which show the electrical activity of your brain, can reveal the specific area of the brain that contributes to each symptom. Then, TMS can target those specific areas as identified for each patient.

TMS may help improve major depression disorder, treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, head injuries, OCD, and other neurological conditions.

01

Customized to You

With MRI-navigated TMS the treatment is completely tailored to each patient’s individual brain scans, honing in on the exact areas of connectivity and function issues for each person. No two treatments are the same.

02

Medication-free

The are no drugs, anesthetics, or medications involved in this treatment. In fact, in many cases, this therapy allowed patients to decrease or stop medications they were taking (under a doctor’s supervision of course).

03

Non-invasive

TMS only uses magnetic waves to gently stimulate activity in the brain. There is no surgery or injections. Patients are awake and fully aware and experience no pain, but just some tapping sensations.

04

FDA Cleared

The equipment and procedures have been put through many research studies and have been used successfully over the last two decades. The equipment used in TMS and the procedure are both FDA-cleared.

How Does TMS Work?

TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) works by gently stimulating the neural activity in your brain. Decreased or altered nerve activity in the brain can affect many aspects of our quality of life, from mental health disorders to physical conditions such as chronic pain.

TMS can help by restoring normal nerve activity and connectivity in the brain. Using this noninvasive procedure, we target specific areas of the brain, based on each patient’s imaging, using repetitive magnetic pulses.

The experienced team at BrainStim Centers, Inc. in Calabasas and Valencia, California, offers precise treatment using Nexstim SmartFocus® TMS technology, MRI and EEG Technology to identify the exact locations to target for treatment.

*Results are based on strict observation of our protocols and vary from patient to patient. Results are not guaranteed.

How does Nexstim SmartFocus TMS improve my treatment?

The team at BrainStim Centers performs TMS using the Nexstim system because it delivers customized and consistent treatment.

Your TMS therapy begins with an MRI of your brain, which the Nexstim turns into a detailed 3D image. This 3D image is an accurate spatial representation of your brain, which we review to find the target area for your treatment.

After we program your personalized information into the Nexstim system, every session will precisely treat that specific area without affecting other areas of your brain.

Watch this video for a more in-depth explanation.

The Nexstim smart-focus technology contains a painless infrared tracker that follows the movement of your head, allowing the computer to adjust in real time and keep your treatment accurate and precise.

What Happens During Nexstim Treatment?

When you receive TMS treatment, you simply relax in a reclining chair. Once you are comfortable, your personal TMS technicians will position a wand-like coil gently against your head, and you won’t feel any weight or pressure.

The technician will also place small electrodes on your hand, which detect muscle movement. We use these readings to determine the optimal intensity for your motor threshold.

When we start the Nexstim device, the coil produces magnetic pulses. You will hear clicking or tapping sounds and may feel a slight tingling on your scalp each time the device delivers a pulse.

Once treatment is over, you are free to leave.

*** Treatments including but not limited to TMS may help improve cognitive function. Individual results may vary.

Testimonials

Meet our Medical Director

World-renowned Neurosurgeon Mark Liker, MD, FAANS, FACS, is the founder and CEO of BrainStim Centers, Inc., with clinics located in Calabasas and Valencia, California. “Our mission is to provide a professional & honest approach to health care”

Dr. Liker expects the highest standard of care and equipment not only in his private practice but in his TMS and MeRT Clinics as well.

As a neurosurgeon, I recognize that the accuracy of my equipment means the difference between an effective and ineffective treatment. Our patients rely on this as well. Many have relied on either medication or therapy. However, MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, offers an innovative, non-invasive option to target critical brain pathways associated with a variety of diseases.”
