Treatment Offers

In the Grip of Debilitating Anxiety? This Breakthrough Treatment Offers New Hope.

Anxiety is a normal part of life: You may feel anxious about a problem at work, before taking a test, or when faced with an important decision. But when that anxiety becomes constant and doesn’t go away or gets worse over time, life can become unbearable.

And many treatment options exist for anxiety disorder, from therapy to medications to various stress-management techniques. However, suppose you’ve tried different anxiety therapies only to find that the results are minimal or absent? In that case, you may have thought you’d have to live with this debilitating anxiety forever.

But there is hope. At BrainStim Centers, we offer a different approach to treating anxiety. It’s called MeRT or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy. It’s non-invasive, drug-free, and lasting.

In essence, MeRT uses a magnetic field to stimulate and balance brain function, guided by sophisticated imaging and diagnostics. And we have used it successfully to treat anxiety, particularly when medications haven’t helped or have caused complex side effects.

How Does MeRT Ease Anxiety?

MeRT stands for Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy. MeRT is a highly individualized form of TMS or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. Specifically, we use magnetic fields to gently stimulate precise brain areas that are not communicating or connecting as they should, balancing brain function. This is all guided by very detailed imaging and diagnostics. Additionally, MeRT is entirely non-invasive, painless, and uses no drugs or medications.

When you suffer from anxiety, we can see specific markers in EEG studies, which show an imbalance in brainwave activity. With MeRT, we work to identify these imbalances and strengthen healthy brainwave activity in order to reduce anxiety symptoms.

Every patient’s brain is different. Therefore, we develop a customized treatment plan to focus on the exact areas to target to improve the communication in your brain and ease your anxiety symptoms.

What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

The American Psychological Association (APA) defines anxiety as “an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure.”

And while some bouts of anxiety can be temporary, with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), these thoughts and feelings don’t go away. People with GAD experience intense anxiety, worry, or nervousness about everyday life. This, therefore, can create significant problems with daily social interactions, school, and work.

GAD affects 6.8 million adults, or 3.1% of the U.S. population, in any given year.

Anxiety Disorder Symptoms

The DSM-5, a diagnostic guide for mental health disorders, lists more than eight anxiety disorders, each with its symptoms. For example, phobias cause a specific fear, such as a fear of spiders. As a group, anxiety disorders cause symptoms like:

Additionally, some people may experience panic attacks, which cause symptoms that mimic a heart attack, including chest pain and shortness of breath.

So, if you think you might have an anxiety disorder, know that there is hope. That’s because the MeRT treatment plan is highly individualized, with the purpose of improved brain communication. While results can vary from individual to individual, MeRT treatment can lead to significant clinical improvements.

Take the easy Steps to Determine if MeRT is the Right Treatment

It’s difficult to know, just from reading this, if MeRT is the right treatment for you. Because we understand this, we know that your first step needs to be a simple one: a phone consultation with our New Patient Coordinator. During this call, you can discuss your symptoms and history, ask questions, and have her explain the protocols, fees, and treatment details.

Then, if you are interested in taking the next step, we can set up an appointment for an EEG (a simple, non-invasive brain scan). Then, once we have analyzed your test results, you will have a one-on-one consultation. You can either attend this appointment in person or, if you wish, you can attend virtually.

During this consultation, you will discuss your symptoms, and we will go over the treatment protocols with you. You can also ask further questions so that together, we can determine if you are a candidate for treatment.

If we determine that MeRT may be the right treatment, then the next step is an Assessment Period. This entails a short period of treatment, followed by a new EEG to see if you are responding to the treatment.

We assess this based on the new EEG results, as well as symptom improvements. If there is a positive response to treatment during the assessment period, you will have likely noticed some improvements. At that point, we can schedule the rest of the treatment.

So, as you can see, there are many steps involved in ensuring that you receive only treatment that will benefit you.
